Temple Ruins, Gopsall Hall

Gopsall Hall was owned by Charles Jennens in the 18th century. The Jennens family had acquired a fortune through the  development of an iron smelting foundry in Birmingham. The temple was an ornate folly/garden feature. Charles was a great charitable benefactor and patron of the arts. He was a close friend of the composer George Frederick Handel who, legend has it, may have used the temple as a quiet retreat to work on his music whilst staying at the Hall.
